SPK MoSi₂ heating element
The MoSi₂ resistive heating element is based on molybdenum
disilicide, a material known for its unique properties. When
exposed to high-temperature oxidizing environments, a layer of
lustrous and compact quartz (SiO₂) glass film is formed through a
specific chemical reaction. This film acts as a shield, preventing
oxidation of the inner silicon molybdenum rod and ensuring
long-lasting high-temperature oxidation resistance.
The material structure of MoSi₂ is highly stable at high
temperatures. It can withstand prolonged exposure to extreme heat
without significant degradation in physical or chemical properties,
guaranteeing the reliability and longevity of the heating element.
Chemical Resistance | Resistant to most acids and alkalis |
Density | 7.4 g/cm³ |
Flexural Strength | 25 MPa |
Corrosion Resistance | Highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion |

Precautions for MoSi2 elements
MoSi₂ heating elements should never be utilized within the
temperature range of 400 ℃ to 700 ℃ as it can lead to
low-temperature oxidation and damage to the elements in such
adverse conditions.
These elements are meant for use in air and neutral atmospheres.
Reducing atmospheres like hydrogen will harm the protective layer,
and chlorine and sulfur vapor will directly damage the elements.
MoSi₂ heating elements soften at high temperatures exceeding 1500 ℃
and are hard and brittle at low temperatures. To avoid stress
caused by temperature changes and facilitate the expansion and
contraction of the elements, the free vertical hanging installation
method is preferred. This makes the removal and replacement of
lifting elements more convenient and enables heat exchange without
waiting for the furnace to cool down.
